Aurora out tonight Sept. 30 in Duluth, Minn.

We’ve got some nice auroral rays reaching up across the northern sky as of 9:15 p.m. (CDT). We also have clouds and moonlight, but the spears of light were easy to see just the same. Take a look. Hopefully it will continue. The satellite auroral oval map shows lots of activity spreading across Canada and into the U.S. I also just got another report from Brian R. of a sighting in the Grand Rapids, Minn. area.

* UPDATE 10 p.m. — Activity has backed off for the moment.
* UPDATE 11:30 p.m. — Aurora’s out bigtime! The whole northern sky to the zenith is filled with pale green rays. Go out for a look!
* UPDATE 12:15 a.m. Monday — Activity has backed off again

    • Thanks MBZ – very interesting read. I at first thought that was an actual image, but see it’s a computer generation. I’ll probably post a version just the same. Thanks for the tip!

  1. Are the northern lights still out? I keep looking, but I think I’m just seeing clouds. That being said, the north sky does have a bit of a green hue tonight, but I can’t see anything definitive. Thanks!!
